Quasi-judicial
What’s a guy gotta do to get a drink on this patio?
The Wild Onion in St. Paul was recently denied a permit to serve booze on their patio. Owners filed suit and say council member Dave Thune was out of line by talking about the request outside of council meetings. His behavior, the suit alleges, was “quasi-judicial” in that it calls into question his impartiality when he is applied existing rules and law to the Wild Onion request.
This seems like a bad deal for transparency in government. What will we know about city leaders if they can’t remark on important matters facing the city?
